Must Know
- Dial 110 (police) or 119 (fire brigade and ambulances) if necessary.
- Emergency Number 03-2118800 Ext. 2000 or 03-2118855.
- Press the red emergency button to reach the guard.
- Avoid unlit areas. Be cautious when it rains and after dark. Make use of corridors and stairs among buildings.
- Theft or any accident call 03-2118800 Ext. 5000.
- Beware of heights, snakes and deep water.
- Orient yourself to campus.
Road Safety
- No riding on campus. Bikes and motorcycles should be parked. Exception for special reasons subject to CGU’s approval.
- Speed limit for vehicles (cars) on campus is 30 km/h. Follow traffic rules.
- Walk on sidewalk and do not climb on the guardrail.
Residence Halls Security
- Keep your room and window locked every time you leave.
- In case of emergency, press the emergency button to reach the warden.
- Report theft, strangers or any accident to the warden or military instructor.

- After midnight (24:00), use your student ID card to enter the dormitory.
- Cooking is not allowed in your room. Beware of prohibited electrical appliances.
- Non-resident students are not permitted to stay overnight.
- Provide landlord’s contact information if you live off campus.
Drug Abuse Prevention
- Say NO to narcotics and friends who encourage drug abuse.
- Cannabis is illegal (listed as category 2 narcotic) in Taiwan.
- Taiwan bans recreational use of laughing gas (Nitrous oxide).
- Be cautious about strangers. Don’t accept suspect food and drinks. Drugs can be disguised as coffee sachets, chocolate and jellies, etc.
- Get rid of drug dealers. Drug smuggling may lead to death penalty.
- Be aware of warning signs. Anti-drug hotline 0800-770-885.
Attention to Employment
- A valid work permit is required for international students to work in Taiwan. Note that violators may be fined from NT$30,000 to NT$150,000 and be deported.
- Except for winter and summer breaks, there is a 20 hours per week work limit.
- Work permit is only valid for 6 months either to 3/31 or 9/30 for two semesters.
- Mainland students are not allowed to work part-time or full-time in Taiwan, but Research Assistants/ Teaching Assistants on their field of study may be acceptable.
- Money laundering is to profit from crime. Never lent/ rent out your bank accounts.
