To protect yourself and others while at CGU, below are some useful tips:

Must Know

  1. Dial 110 (police) or 119 (fire brigade and ambulances) if necessary.
  2. Emergency Number 03-2118800 Ext. 2000 or 03-2118855.
  3. Press the red emergency button to reach the guard.
  4. Avoid unlit areas. Be cautious when it rains and after dark. Make use of corridors and stairs among buildings.
  5. Theft or any accident call 03-2118800 Ext. 5000.
  6. Beware of heights, snakes and deep water.
  7. Orient yourself to campus.

Road Safety

  1. No riding on campus. Bikes and motorcycles should be parked. Exception for special reasons subject to CGU’s approval.
  2. Speed limit for vehicles (cars) on campus is 30 km/h. Follow traffic rules.
  3. Walk on sidewalk and do not climb on the guardrail.

Residence Halls Security

  1. Keep your room and window locked every time you leave.
  2. In case of emergency, press the emergency button to reach the warden.
  3. Report theft, strangers or any accident to the warden or military instructor.

  4. After midnight (24:00), use your student ID card to enter the dormitory. 
  5. Cooking is not allowed in your room. Beware of prohibited electrical appliances.
  6. Non-resident students are not permitted to stay overnight.
  7. Provide landlord’s contact information if you live off campus.

Drug Abuse Prevention

  1. Say NO to narcotics and friends who encourage drug abuse.
  2. Cannabis is illegal (listed as category 2 narcotic) in Taiwan.
  3. Taiwan bans recreational use of laughing gas (Nitrous oxide).
  4. Be cautious about strangers. Don’t accept suspect food and drinks. Drugs can be disguised as coffee sachets, chocolate and jellies, etc.
  5. Get rid of drug dealers. Drug smuggling may lead to death penalty.
  6. Be aware of warning signs. Anti-drug hotline 0800-770-885.

Attention to Employment

  1. A valid work permit is required for international students to work in Taiwan. Note that violators may be fined from NT$30,000 to NT$150,000 and be deported.
  2. Except for winter and summer breaks, there is a 20 hours per week work limit.
  3. Work permit is only valid for 6 months either to 3/31 or 9/30 for two semesters.
  4. Mainland students are not allowed to work part-time or full-time in Taiwan, but Research Assistants/ Teaching Assistants on their field of study may be acceptable.
  5. Money laundering is to profit from crime. Never lent/ rent out your bank accounts.
