The Ministry of Education has released the official guidelines for the 2025 Government-Funded Study Abroad Examination (R.O.C. students only)

  1. The official announcement has been published on the Ministry of Education’s website (www.edu.tw) under the "Latest News" section (June 30, 2025), and also on the homepage of the Department of International and Cross-strait Education (Business Section → Studying Abroad → Government-funded Study Abroad and Scholarships → Government-funded Study Abroad Exam Information).
  2. Details regarding the exam subjects, registration period, written and oral exam dates, the number of expected admissions, and result announcement are as follows:
    • Exam Subjects: Mandarin composition and two specialized subjects, for a total of three subjects.
    • Registration Method and Period: Online registration and document upload only. Registration is open from 8:00 AM, July 15, 2025, to 5:00 PM, July 29, 2025.
    • Written Exam Date: October 4, 2025.
    • Oral Exam Dates: December 6 and 7, 2025.
    • Expected Number of Admissions: A total of 201, including:151 general government-funded students, 10 outstanding students with financial need, 20 indigenous students, 10 students with disabilities and 10 students planning to study in New Southbound countries
    • Degree Level: Government-funded study is primarily for Ph.D. programs. However, for some fields within the “Arts” and “Architecture, Planning, and Design” categories, Master’s programs are also eligible. Applicants under the three special categories (outstanding, indigenous, and students with disabilities), as well as those planning to study in New Southbound countries, may choose to pursue either a Master’s or a Ph.D.
    • Announcement of Admission Results: December 31, 2025.

To align with national development needs in 2025, an additional 40 admission slots have been allocated for fields corresponding to the Five Trusted Industries, particularly in Information and Electrical Engineering and Engineering fields. Students aspiring to study abroad are strongly encouraged to apply.
  4. Applicants must attend both the written and oral exams in person. Video interviews are not provided, so interested candidates are advised to plan their schedules in advance.
