Purpose
Chang Gung University (hereinafter referred to as “CGU”), in order to enhance students’ international mobility, broaden global perspectives, and promote multicultural exchange, is launching a short video competition for both domestic degree-seeking students and incoming exchange students. The competition aims to encourage students to share their overseas study or exchange experiences at CGU, promote cross-cultural understanding, increase students’ willingness to participate in overseas study programs, and showcase CGU’s friendly environment and international characteristics.Eligibility
Applicants must meet the following criteria, and their outbound or inbound exchange period must fall between August 1, 2025, and April 23, 2026:- Domestic students participating in CGU’s outbound programs, including semester/year exchange, dual degree programs, internships, or short-term programs.
- Incoming non-degree students undertaking academic exchange at CGU (e.g., semester/year exchange students, short-term visiting or internship students). Their stay at CGU must be at least three months, and the participant must still be on CGU campus during the competition result announcement period.
Video Themes and Content
Theme 1: Outbound domestic students sharing their overseas study experienceTheme 2: International non-degree students sharing their academic and exchange experience at CGU
Participants may freely determine the focus of their video based on their personal experience of studying abroad or participating in CGU's non-degree programs. The content should cover one or more of the following aspects:
- Academic Experience: Course content, learning environment, faculty-student interaction, etc.
- Daily Life: Campus facilities, accommodation experience, transportation, local cuisine, etc.
- Cultural Exchange: Interaction with international/Taiwanese students, participation in student organizations, festival experiences, etc.
- Motivation and Future Development: Reasons for studying abroad or coming to Taiwan, and how this experience has influenced future academic or career plans.
Submission Period
Submissions are accepted until April 23, 2026 (Taiwan Time).Specifications
- Duration: 90 seconds to 3 minutes (including opening and ending credits).
- Format: MP4 or MOV; minimum resolution of 1920 × 1080 (HD), landscape orientation.
- Entries must be original works filmed and edited by the participant. Submissions must not have been previously entered in other competitions, publicly released, exhibited, or awarded/subsidized by any other organization.
- If the video includes narration or dialogue, it should be presented in the participant’s native language, accompanied by English subtitles or bilingual (Chinese and English) subtitles.
- No restrictions on filming equipment; however, the filming period and location must be specified.
- The video must not contain any editing software watermarks or personal logos.
- Background music must be originally composed or sourced from Creative Commons–licensed materials, with proper attribution provided in accordance with licensing requirements.
Application and Review Process
- Application Method: Complete the online application form and upload the video along with the “Copyright Declaration and Transfer Agreement” (please refer to the attached file).
- The competition is individual-based, and each participant may submit only one entry.
- Preliminary Review Criteria: Entries will pass the preliminary review if the video aligns with the competition objectives, contains appropriate and positive content, does not infringe on intellectual property rights, and complies with all submission requirements (e.g., duration, subtitles).
- Revision Mechanism: If the submission does not meet the preliminary review criteria, participants must complete the required revisions within five days (inclusive) from the date of notification by the organizer. Failure to do so will be regarded as withdrawal from the competition.
- Secondary Review Criteria: Videos that pass the preliminary review will be uploaded by the Office of International Affairs to the “Chang Gung University” YouTube channel. Evaluation will be based on the number of unique viewers recorded in YouTube Analytics, with a minimum requirement of 200 viewers.
- Secondary Review Deadline: May 23, 2026, at 11:59 PM (Taiwan Time).
Awards and Prizes
Awards will be determined based on the number of unique viewers recorded in YouTube Analytics.Theme 1 and Theme 2 will be evaluated separately:
- 1st Place: NTD 10,000 and a certificate
- 2nd Place: NTD 8,000 and a certificate
- 3rd Place: NTD 6,000 and a certificate
- Honorable Mention: NTD 2,000 and a certificate
- If the number of participants in either theme is fewer than five, the organizer reserves the right to merge the evaluation with the other theme or withhold awards for that theme.
- Regardless of whether themes are merged, the total number of award recipients shall not exceed 50% of the total number of participants. CGU may adjust the number of awards or withhold prizes based on the quality and quantity of submissions.
- CGU reserves the right to make final adjustments or changes to the prizes and awards, as well as the right of final interpretation or cancellation of the event.
Announcement of Results and Prize Collection
The competition results are expected to be announced by June 12. Award recipients must complete the receipt verification process at the Office of International Affairs within the specified deadline. Prize money will be disbursed via bank transfer.Recipients who are unable to complete the prize collection procedures in person will be deemed to have forfeited their awards and prizes.
Important Notes
- Prize money will be remitted to the recipient’s personal bank account registered in the iCGU system. If the account is not held with Yuanta Bank or Chunghwa Post, additional transaction fees may be deducted.
- Incoming non-degree exchange students without a local bank account will receive the prize in cash, arranged separately by the Office of International Affairs.
- Taxes will be withheld in accordance with the laws and regulations of the Republic of China (Taiwan). Recipients who stay in Taiwan for fewer than 183 days in 2026 and receive prize money of NTD 5,001 or more will be subject to a 20% withholding tax. The actual amount received will be the net amount after tax deduction.
