My Journey to Chang Gung University: Smooth, Exciting, and Totally Worth It

Studying abroad always seemed like a mix of excitement and uncertainty. But my journey to Chang Gung University (CGU) in Taiwan turned out to be much smoother and more rewarding than I ever imagined. From discovering the university to settling into campus life, every step exceeded my expectations.

Finding CGU: A Facebook Discovery

It all started with a casual scroll through Facebook when a post about CGU caught my attention. At first, I thought it was just another ad, but curiosity led me to click. What I found was a world of opportunity—CGU stood out with its academic excellence, cutting-edge research, and close ties to Chang Gung Memorial Hospital.

What really sealed the deal for me was the appeal of Taiwan’s vibrant culture, incredible food, and affordable living. CGU wasn’t just a university; it felt like the perfect place to grow academically and personally.

Preparing to Move: Easier Than Expected

Applying to study abroad can feel overwhelming, but CGU made it surprisingly simple. Their website outlined every step clearly, from submitting transcripts to meeting English proficiency requirements.

The real lifesavers were the staff at the Office of International Affairs (OIA). They patiently answered all my questions, helped with visa preparation, and ensured everything went smoothly. By the time my application was done, I couldn’t believe how stress-free the process had been.

Arriving in Taiwan: A Warm Welcome

Landing in Taiwan was an exciting moment, and the transition couldn’t have been better. A friend I’d met online came to pick me up from the airport, making my first day effortless.

The dorms were another pleasant surprise. They were clean, comfortable, and equipped with everything I needed to settle in. Within hours, I already felt at home.

Language barriers? Not a big deal. While my Mandarin skills were basic, most people around CGU spoke enough English to help. Plus, the international student community was incredibly welcoming, forming a support system that made adjusting much easier.

Life at CGU: A Place to Chill and Thrive

CGU’s campus has so many great spots to relax and recharge. Whether I needed a peaceful place to study or hang out with friends, the options were endless.

But the real highlight for me was the library. It became my sanctuary—the perfect mix of quiet study areas and extensive resources. I spent countless hours there, whether preparing for exams or simply enjoying the serene atmosphere.

Outside academics, exploring Taiwan was a joy. The food scene, especially, was unforgettable. Bubble tea and night markets became my go-to, offering delicious and affordable meals. Each bite felt like a mini celebration of Taiwanese culture.

Reflections: A Life-Changing Experience

Looking back, choosing CGU was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. It wasn’t just about academics—it was about experiencing a new culture, building friendships, and growing in ways I never anticipated.

The journey taught me independence and resilience, from navigating a new country to balancing studies and social life. CGU’s supportive environment, combined with Taiwan’s welcoming spirit, made it all possible.

If you’re considering studying abroad, my advice is simple: go for it. With the right mindset and a place like CGU, the experience will be unforgettable. From its amazing library to its vibrant student community, CGU offers everything you need to thrive.

In the end, my journey to CGU wasn’t just about earning a degree—it was about discovering a new version of myself. Taiwan’s warm hospitality, rich culture, and incredible opportunities have left a lasting impact on me, and I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything.
