Chang Gung University Makes Significant Leap in THE Impact Rankings 2025
Ranked 401–600 Globally, Achieves Highest Overall Score in University
History
The Times Higher Education (THE) released the 2025 Impact Rankings on June 18, evaluating 2,526 universities across 130 countries based on their
performance in advancing the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals
(SDGs). Chang Gung University (CGU) made a remarkable leap in
this year’s rankings, placing in the 401–600 band globally, an improvement of over
200 places compared to its previous standing. The university also achieved its highest overall score since
participating, reflecting deepening progress in sustainability practices and
growing international recognition.
Among the 17 SDGs,
CGU excelled
particularly in SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, ranking 64th globally and 6th nationally. This achievement
showcases the university’s long-standing commitment to medical research, health
promotion, and the cultivation of healthcare professionals. CGU’s close
collaboration with surrounding medical institutions has helped establish a
comprehensive healthcare ecosystem. In SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, the university attained
its highest
score to date, highlighting its continued engagement in global sustainability
policy advocacy, regular publication of sustainability reports, and active
industry-academia collaborations with international corporations. These efforts
have contributed to nurturing talent with a global perspective and
interdisciplinary innovation capacity. For the first time, CGU was also ranked
under SDG 12:
Responsible Consumption and Production, signaling successful implementation of green
procurement, waste management, and circular resource initiatives. Looking
ahead, the university will continue promoting sustainable consumption habits
and embedding the green campus philosophy into daily practice.
To steer its
sustainability journey, CGU has established an Office of Sustainability
Development, responsible for planning and implementing related policies, while
coordinating efforts across departments to uphold the core values of Environment, Social, and
Governance (ESG). Practical measures such as carbon reduction, green transportation, accessible and
inclusive campus facilities, gender equality education, and health promotion
activities further exemplify the university’s commitment to the SDGs.
In terms of
education, CGU is advancing interdisciplinary sustainability learning. Starting
from the 2024 academic year, it launched a Micro Program in Interdisciplinary Sustainability, centered around ESG
topics. This program encourages students to engage with critical issues such as carbon neutrality, climate
change, biodiversity conservation, and social responsibility, enhancing both their
sustainability literacy and practical problem-solving abilities. Through themed
competitions and workshops, students and faculty are also encouraged to
identify social needs and sustainability values from daily life, reinforcing
hands-on action.
Chang Gung University stated that it will continue to integrate education,
research, and social engagement, while expanding
collaborations with industries, local communities, and international
institutions. The university aims to strengthen SDG-oriented governance and
strategic actions, and move steadily toward becoming a world-class university
with a global vision and sustainable
impact.
