Introduction
ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID)ORCID is an open, non-profit organization that helps researchers create a unique 16-digit academic identity identifier. Researchers can use ORCID across various aspects of their academic activities, including:
- Identity Recognition: Provides a unique digital identifier for researchers, resolving issues caused by name variations or different name spellings over time.
- Simplified Submission Process: Some publishers, such as IEEE and certain Wiley journals, use ORCID IDs as an identifier for manuscript submissions.
- Increased Research Visibility: A unique author identifier ensures more accurate citation tracking in bibliographic databases such as Web of Science and Scopus.
- Eliminates Repetitive Entry of Publications: ORCID allows researchers to import and export their academic records, making it easier to compile bibliographies for CVs or funding applications.
Chang Gung University ORCID Integration Project
【Chang Gung University】Academic Capacity Ensemble aims to preserve and showcase the university's research achievements, record the institution's academic legacy, and promote international collaboration. The library became a member of the Taiwan ORCID Consortium in April 2016, and integrated ORCID with the institutional repository through advanced API access. With faculty authorization, their publication lists were automatically imported from the repository to their personal ORCID pages.
However, due to security concerns and outdated system versions, the institutional repository was phased out in April 2024. 【Chang Gung University】Academic Capacity Ensemble has since taken over, inviting faculty members to authorize the new system to ensure a comprehensive collection of teaching and research outputs. This initiative aims to enhance academic visibility and promote opportunities for international collaboration.
