Introduction

To respect and protect intellectual property and to assist students in using legally copyrighted textbooks, the Library's Course Reserved Textbook Service collects textbooks designated by teachers for their courses. Students can use the library's catalog system to search for textbooks by title, instructor, or course name. Electronic textbooks can be accessed directly within the campus network through the library catalog system. Physical textbooks are available for reading in a special area on the first floor. An additional copy of a Chinese-language textbook is purchased and maintained under the general library collections.

Processing Procedures

  • Survey Process
    • At the end of each semester or during the winter/summer break, the library conducts a survey asking instructors to submit new course reserve materials. If an instructor continues to use the same textbook, no resubmission is required and the library will automatically place it on continuing course reserve.
  • Application Methods:
  • In order to make it easier for teachers to present information, we offer the following methods:
    • For books already in the library collection: please use the library's collection search system to make your own course book assignments online.
    • For books not in the library collection: If the requested book is not available in the library collection, instructors should complete the Course Reserve Book Request Form [reserveBook] (available in WORD/ODT format) and submit it to the library via email or hard copy. Alternatively, they may provide the necessary information using the online form (available only during the survey period).
Since book procurement takes time, faculty are encouraged to submit requests as early as possible. The library will expedite the acquisition process and place the materials on course reserve for faculty and student use.
If you have any questions about the Course Reserve Service, please contact the library staff - we are here to help!
