To achieve its educational goal of nurturing interdisciplinary talent, Chang Gung University established the Graduate Institute of Biochemical and Biomedical Engineering and the Graduate Institute of Medical Mechatronics in 2002. With the rapid aging of the population driving demand for home healthcare industries, alongside the increasing complexity of skills required for developing precision medical technologies and devices, the field of biomedical engineering has attracted a growing number of students. In response, Chang Gung University sought to effectively integrate and share resources to cultivate biomedical engineers with a foundation in engineering science, equipping them to combine knowledge from engineering and life sciences to solve clinical medical problems and improve healthcare efficiency, ultimately enhancing patients' quality of life. In August 2018, the university merged the two graduate institutes to form the Graduate Institute of Biomedical Engineering and later, in August 2022, established the undergraduate Department of Biomedical Engineering.
