From August 24 to September 4, 2026, the School of Nursing at Chang Gung University (CGU) hosted the “Cross-cultural International Exchange Program,” led by Prof. Shih-Ying Chen. The program brought together nursing students from Taiwan, Okayama University in Japan, and Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta (UMJ) in Indonesia. Through classroom learning, clinical and community visits, group discussions, and international comparative presentations, students exchanged perspectives across cultures and healthcare systems.
The program covered acute care, cancer treatment and care, elderly care, long-term care, dementia care, community health, and traditional Chinese medicine. Students visited sites including the Proton Therapy Center, dementia care services, long-term care and nursing home settings, the Chang Gung Health and Culture Village, and traditional Chinese medicine facilities, gaining a broad view of Taiwan’s healthcare continuum from hospitals to long-term care and community settings.
Students from the three countries also worked in groups to compare healthcare experiences in Taiwan, Japan, and Indonesia, identify cultural and system-level differences, and propose practical strategies for shared health issues. The two-week program strengthened students’ professional knowledge, cross-cultural communication, teamwork, and global healthcare perspectives.
