Library Summer Online Lecture – The New York Times, Knovel and Turnitin. Welcome to participate.

To support teaching and research and promote effective use of library resources, the library will host three online academic lectures during the summer break. Topics include a user guide to The New York Times Database, an introduction to Knovel Reference and Interactive Resources and an in-depth overview of Turnitin’s originality reports and new system updates. 1.Lecture 1: Global Insights: How to Use The New York Times Database

(3)Lecture Introduction: Curated by a professional editorial team, The New York Times offers in-depth news reports and lifestyle information that encourage exploration and critical thinking. This session will introduce teaching applications and learning scenarios using the database, which is licensed under the national academic version by the CONCERT Consortium and accessible to all university faculty and students through December 31, 2025.T

2.Lecture 2: Your Teaching Partner in Engineering: Knovel Reference and Interactive Resources

(3)Lecture Introduction: Knovel a wide range of engineering handbooks in disciplines such as chemical, mechanical, materials, and civil engineering. The platform includes interactive tables and graphs, as well as perform engineering calculations using the interactive equations feature. This session will provide a guided tour of the Knovel interface, covering search techniques, the content viewer, interactive tools, and personalized features.

3.Lecture 3: A Complete Guide to Turnitin for Educators: From Course Setup to Originality Checking

(2)Speaker: Ms. Jenny Cheng, Lecturer at iGroup Taiwan
(3)Lecture Introduction: Turnitin provides a document similarity checking service that enables users to independently assess the originality of their work, thereby enhancing the credibility of their academic writing. Recently, Turnitin has implemented several important system updates, including enhancements to the similarity report interface and improved account security. This session will introduce the features of the Turnitin Instructor version and explain these key updates, helping educators become familiar with the new functions, improve teaching efficiency, and promote academic integrity.

Registration and Participation:
●Registration Method: Log in iCGU→Campus Activities / Library Summer Online Lecture Sessions
●Participation in each session qualifies for credit-hour toward Teaching Quality Enhancement Program. Please use your Office365 school account and log into the Teams Meeting at least 5 minutes before the lecture starts.
●Courses shall be held physically in the library as well as online via TEAMS speaking Mandarin. There is no need for online participants to sign in or out. Attendance will be based on system records of participant’s joining and leaving the virtual meeting room. Participants who join 5 minutes after the official session start-time, or leave 5 minutes before the official end-time, or who fail to leave the virtual meeting room within 10 minutes after the end-time without any interaction (e.g., speaking or chatting), will not receive credit-hours.
