About the Speaker:
Stephen Koo is a Staff Software Engineer at
Google specializing in AI and backend systems. He currently leads the
development of evaluation infrastructure for AI features on the Workspace AI
Platform team. Since 2023, he worked on the core serving stack for Generative
AI in Workspace. Previously, he was a Software Engineer on the Gmail & Chat
team, focusing on reliable email processing and smart features while serving as
a machine learning expert. Earlier, as a Speech Research Engineer, he developed
deep learning models for speech recognition. He also led the redevelopment of
Stanford AI’s CodaLab platform into microservices. Stephen holds an M.S. and
B.S. in Computer Science with a specialization in AI from Stanford University.
Abstract:
Stephen will share his experience as an AI
engineer at Google, including Workspace AI platform, Gmail smart features,
speech deep learning, and microservices. He’ll also discuss key skills and
challenges for AI engineers in the U.S. tech industry.
