Dr. Yu-Chuan Kang applied for a short-term
overseas research fellowship in 2023 and traveled to the Columbia University in
the United States. Under the mentorship of internationally renowned
physician-scientist Dr. Nan-Kai Wang, he engaged in translational research in
ophthalmology.
During the research period, Dr. Nan-Kai
Wang, Dr. You-Chuan Kang, and Associate Professor Chi-Neu Tsai’s laboratory
maintained close collaboration through virtual meetings. By integrating
clinical observations with molecular mechanistic analyses, the team conducted
an in-depth investigation into the relationship between retinal
neurodegeneration and cellular energy metabolism, and proposed promising
protective and therapeutic strategies. Their findings were ultimately published
in Science Advances (DOI: 10.1126/sciadv.adx7815) this year, demonstrating
outstanding research excellence and significant international academic impact.
Congratulations to the team of Dr. Nan-Kai
Wang, Dr. Yu-Chuan Kang, and Professor Chi-Neu Tsai. This achievement not only
highlights Dr. Kang’s courage in embracing challenges and his commitment to
academic excellence, but also strengthens the Institute’s international
collaborative capacity. It serves as an inspiring model for younger scholars,
and we extend our most sincere congratulations and commendation.
