In this study, Assistant Professor Shih established a fully human single B-cell cloning antibody technology platform. Using this platform, his team successfully isolated 19 monoclonal antibodies from patients carrying anti–interferon-gamma autoantibodies who were suffering from mycobacterial infections. The research clearly elucidated how these autoantibodies suppress the biological activity of interferon-gamma in patients, and further revealed that antibodies with strong neutralizing capacity may hold therapeutic potential for diseases associated with abnormal interferon-gamma activation.

The research outcomes have been successfully transferred through technology licensing, and the licensed technology has entered Phase II clinical trials in both the United States and Taiwan. It is anticipated that these achievements will contribute to the development of Taiwan’s biotechnology industry and bring tangible benefits to patients.
Warmest congratulations from all faculty and students!
