From the Dean 院長的話
歡迎來到長庚大學智慧運算學院！
Welcome to the College of Intelligent Computing!
數個世紀以來，人們就懷抱著建造機器或人工智慧的夢想，並且為之深深吸引。人工智慧(AI)是眾多藝術、哲學、生理、機械、以及電腦科學研究的主題。許多科幻小說與電影創作出令人嘖嘖稱奇的故事，並且給予未來科技無限想像。其中或有跨越人類與機器之間的界線（甚至出現人機結合的跨物種），更有許多是機器為了取代人類成為「萬物之靈」，而最終向人類全面宣戰的恐怖故事。
For centuries, people have been fascinated by the dream of building machine, or artificial, intelligence. It has been the subject of many artistic, philosophical, neural, mechanical, and, finally, computer science studies. Numerous sci-fi fictions and movies have created amazing yet mind boggling dramas full of wonders and promises. Some of them have crossed the boundary between humans and machines (even with inter-beings bondings). Many of them ended up as horror stories, with machines eventually at war with humans, trying to take over the world as highly intelligent beings.
然而在今日，人類仍然遠比機器或電腦更為聰明。人類或許不是世界上最強壯、思考最快速、最具邏輯或最敏銳的物種。但我們仍有獨特的智慧能創作、發掘、運用並管理許多人造的事物與機器。在過去半個世紀，從電腦、網際網路、行動網路、物聯網、到今日的智慧運算，我們見證到資訊創新對人類社會的影響。我們仍有長足的空間持續精進AI技術，並從中獲得巨大利益。透過在各種領域的運用，人工智慧可以改善人類生活的幾乎所有面向，並打造一個更美好的世界。
At present, however, human beings are still absolutely more intelligent than machines or computers. Although humans are not the strongest, the fastest thinking, the most logical, or even the most sensitive beings in this world, we humans have the unique intelligence to create, to explore, to deploy and to manage many man-made things and machines. In the past half a century, we have seen the impact of IT innovations on human society through the invention of computers, internet, mobile networks, IoT, and now intelligent computing. There are still great benefits and enormous opportunities for us to advance and to adopt artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in many domains to improve almost every aspect of human lives and make our world a better place.
在長庚大學，我們決定成立智慧運算學院 (College of Intelligent Computing，CoIC)，以研發這項在當前尖端科學中至為關鍵的技術。CoIC 在許多方面都是獨一無二的。長庚大學是全台──甚至是全球──極少數為AI科學與教育專門設置「學院級」學術單位的大學。CoIC將提供從學士、碩士到博士的完整高等教育學程，並與校內各單位合作規劃跨學院聯合學位學程，將人工智慧運用到眾多科學領域。長庚大學也設有「人工智慧研究中心」，擁有最頂尖的AI伺服器與堅強的科研團隊。我們不僅扎根於AI基礎科學研究，也積極與業界夥伴和醫療專業人員合作進行各項專案計畫。
At Chang Gung University (CGU), we decided to set up the College of Intelligent Computing (CoIC) to address this most critical technology in the current scientific front. CoIC is unique in many ways. CGU is one of the first universities in Taiwan, if not the world, to set up an academic unit at the college level devoted to the science and education of artificial intelligence technology. CoIC will have complete higher education programs from Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and PhD. CoIC also plans to offer joint degree programs with other colleges at CGU to bring AI to all scientific disciplines. In addition, we have established a Research Center on AI, with the most advanced AI server hardware and a strong group of active researchers to work on basic AI research, as well as practical projects with industrial partners and medical professionals.
CoIC期許廣募國際級的師資、研究人員與學生，結合本地與遠距的教學研究合作，成為全球AI社群的重要成員。我們鼓勵多向(多邊)國際交流計畫，提供給教師與學生，短期或長期，並授予聯合或雙學位。作為台灣頂尖私立大學，我們勇於發掘探索、引領創新，致力追求成為國際學術教學與研究的典範，與全球AI教育和研究者共同競合。
CoIC hopes to be a key member of the global AI community, with international professors, researchers and students, using both local and remote teaching and research collaboration. We encourage multi-way international exchange programs, for both teachers and students, short- and long-term, and with joint/dual degree offerings. As one of the leading private universities in Taiwan, we are eager to explore, to lead and to exemplify a truly international education and research model (institution), to collaborate and to compete with global AI educators and researchers.
這是一場嶄新的旅程，我們對於CoIC充滿無限可能的未來感到無比興奮。我竭誠邀請您來拜訪我們、加入我們、與我們一起努力。我們期待在長庚大學智慧運算學院與您相遇！
