This course intends to present key health economics concepts through the applications of microeconomic analytical tools. This course is designed to first introduce the theoretical models for the three key players in the health care market, namely, consumers, providers and insurers, and relevant empirical evidence will then be presented to exemplify the models introduced. Both local and abroad empirical evidence and experiences will be covered in this course, for example, the illustrations are made to the issues discussed in U.S. health care system and National Health Insurance program in Taiwan. In addition to a mid-term written examination, each student is required to present and turn in an essay on a self-selected topic. Class participation is strongly encouraged and will be evaluated.
