Prof. Cheng have five patents for Heart Failure biomarker application (US 14/631,620; PRC ZL 2015 100883856; ROC I587793; ROC I553313; PRC ZL2014 1 048247907) and one patent for Sarcopenia mortality prediction (ROC I769956).
Lab & Research Interest
As head of the Metabolomics Core Lab of the Healthy Aging Research Center at Chang Gung University, I oversee a team of experts developing and applying novel analytical methodologies for global profiling and targeted analysis of small molecules and lipids. Our favored technology platforms include nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry (NMR), liquid chromatography-time of fly mass spectrometry (LC-TOFMS), and LC-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), gas chromatography spectrometry (GC-MS). Our principal application of established and developing technologies includes human biofluids, tissue extracts, animal models, and cell cultures needed to explore disease mechanisms in greater depth. We work closely with clinicians and basic science researchers at the Chang Gung system to provide innovative and reliable bioanalytical solutions for metabolomics and lipidomics.
We are most active in the areas of:
1. Analytical method development for small molecules (metabolites)
2. Metabolite assignment and identification
3. High-precision analysis demanded by large sample cohorts from molecular epidemiology studies
4. Those studies involving clinical diseases such as cardiovascular disease, Parkinson's disease, diabetes, and sarcopenia
My personal research interest has been on redox biology and translational medicine. The well-established approach of both NMR- and MS-based metabolomics platforms have been applied to study the metabolic disturbance in disease, on stress-induced metabolic reprograming in cells, and age-related diseases.Publications
