【Lecture Announcement】2025/4/30 (Wednesday) 10:30AM " From Plastic to Valuable MOF Materials: Catalytic PET-to-BHET-to-MOF Conversion over Efficient Solid Catalysts " - Professor Chia-Wen (Kevin) Wu, Department of Chemical Engineering, National Taiwan University.

You are cordially invited to attend the Lecture of Sustainability and Energy Technologies. We are pleased to have Professor Chia-Wen (Kevin) Wu from from Department of Chemical Engineering at National Taiwan University as our speaker. The topic of the lecture is " From Plastic to Valuable MOF Materials: Catalytic PET-to-BHET-to-MOF Conversion over Efficient Solid Catalysts ". Further details are as follows:

1.Topic: From Plastic to Valuable MOF Materials: Catalytic PET-to-BHET-to-MOF Conversion over Efficient Solid Catalysts

2.Speaker:Professor  Chia-Wen (Kevin) Wu

3.AbstractOwing to the rapid upsurge in plastic production in the last five decades, which has resulted in a dramatic increase in global plastic pollution, the development of sustainable techniques for plastic recycling and upcycling is indispensable in an attempt to decrease global plastic pollution and to attain a sustainable cycle. In response to this, the present author performed the development of heterogeneous catalysts for the chemical recycling of polyester plastics, i.e., polyethylene terephthalate (PET) via glycolysis and polycarbonate (PC) via methanolysis, and the conversion of PET and the glycolysis product of PET, namely bis(2-hydroxyethyl) terephthalate (BHET), into valuable metal-organic frameworks (MOFs).
