To respond to international ESG trends, Chang Gung University conducted a greenhouse gas inventory in June 2024 to verify the accuracy of its initial emissions data. It received international certification for "ISO 14064-1 Greenhouse Gas Inventory." On September 24 of the same year, President Tang Ming-zhe represented the university to accept the certificate from Lin Ying-xiang, Deputy Director of BSI British Standards Institution. During the certification ceremony, President Tang, along with Sustainable Development Director Li Kun-mu and various university leaders, pledged to establish better carbon reduction targets and action plans, moving toward the government's 2050 net-zero carbon and carbon neutrality goals.

President Tang stated, "Chang Gung University places great importance on environmental protection and actively promotes energy-saving and carbon reduction measures. The first step to achieving net-zero carbon emissions is to clarify the campus's greenhouse gas emissions. ISO 14064-1 provides quantitative reporting and guidelines for organizational-level greenhouse gas emissions. By understanding the current greenhouse gas emissions of the school, we can develop better carbon reduction targets and action plans. Through administrative management processes, we will implement 'energy saving and carbon reduction' and 'green campus' initiatives from the source. Specific actions include deploying electric campus patrol scooters, replacing outdated energy-consuming equipment, installing energy-saving lighting, and monitoring electricity usage, aiming for campus carbon neutrality by 2050."

To fulfill its commitment to sustainable development and social responsibility, Chang Gung University has established a Sustainable Development Office and partnered with Chang Gung University of Science and Technology and Ming Chi University of Technology to jointly sign a "University Sustainable Development Initiative" with the Taiwan Sustainable Energy Research Foundation. Recently, it signed a memorandum of understanding with the ESG Sustainable Development Association to offer training programs for sustainable management professionals and iPAS net-zero carbon planning certification. This initiative supports cross-departmental collaboration among faculty, staff, and students to contribute to university sustainable development, promote a green low-carbon sustainable environment, and actively demonstrate a commitment to aligning with international standards, fulfilling its social responsibility as a "green university" in sustainable ecological management.
